Technical Tour 1: Qingcaosha Reservoir
As the largest estuary reservoir in the world , Qingcaosha Reservoir is located in the south and north passage bifurcation of Yangtze River, northern ChangxingIsland. The reservoir was built in 2011 with an effectivestorage capacity of 553 million m³. lt is able to provide 7.31 million m³ raw water per day, accounting for over 50% of the total raw water supply in Shanghai, serving over 13 million people. Qingcaosha Reservoir had been suffering the MlB episodes since it was put into use. lt is equipped with multiple on-line monitoringsensors to check variations of water quality. A model has been developed to predict the occurrenceof MlB producing cyanobacteria. The under water light restricting approach has been adoptedsuccessfully for the in-situ control of MlB producing cyanobacteria since 2020.
Technical Tour 2: Nanshi Water Treatmen Plant
As the first digital twin water treatment plant in Shanghai, Nanshi Water Treatment Plant isclosed to the Huangpu River. The water treatment plant was first built in 1902 and rebuilt in2009, with a water supply capacity of 700,000 cubic meters per day. The unmanned laboratoryproject of Nanshi Water Treatment Plant has achieved full automation and unmanned operationof water quality testing, covering the detection of 13 routine indicators. This laboratory adopts amodular design, featuring high replicability and scalability. lt supports continuous operation andcan adjust the testing efficiency as needed.
Technical Tour 3: Minhang Water Treatment Plant
The Minhang Water Treatment Plant boasts a daily water supply capacity of 270,000 cubicmeters, serving an estimated population of 100,000 residents. The facility employs dual advanced treatment processes: a 20,000-ton/day system integrating ozone-activated carbon with ultrafiltration membrane technology, and a 10,000-ton/day system combining conventional treatment with nanofiltration membrane technology.
These advanced technologies effectively remove organic compounds, trace pollutants, and microorganisms while preserving beneficial minerals, significantly enhancing both water quality and taste. The treated water maintains a consistent turbidity level of 0.081 NTU, which is further reduced by over 50% after membrane treatment, meeting all direct drinking water standards and ensuring complete drinking water safety for the community. Technical Tour 4: Bailonggang Wastewater Treatment Plant
As the largest wastewater treatment plant in Asia, the Bailonggang Wastewater Treatment Plant has a designed treatment capacity of 2.8 million cubic meters per day, supported by sludge treatment capacity of 486 tons of dry solids per day and odor treatment capacity of 5.58 million cubic meters per hour.
The plant employs a combined wastewater treatment process of “ultra-short-time primary sedimentation tanks + multi-mode AAO (Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic) + horizontal flow secondary sedimentation tanks + high-efficiency sedimentation” to achieve high-standard effluent quality. For sludge treatment, the plant utilizes “mesophilic anaerobic digestion + thermal drying and incineration” technology. To address odors generated during the wastewater and sludge treatment processes, the plant adopts a decentralized collection and centralized treatment approach, implementing an efficient combined process of “biological treatment + chemical scrubbing + photolysis + adsorption”.
